Top rated books 2007 to date

A question came up after we read All the Light We Cannot See as to whether that was our highest rating book ever? So…I’ve gone back through our records to 2007 (when the blog began), and pulled out the top-rating books (see below). No, All the Light We Cannot See is not our highest…that honour goes to The Book Thief Interesting to reflect on whether there are any common genres/themes/styles/periods etc within this list?

The Book Thief by Marcus Zusak (9.06)

The Road by Cormac McCarthy (9.0)

The Secret History by Donna Tartt (9.0)

The Portrait of a Lady by Henry James
 (9.0*)
*only two ladies finished the book, so this is based on two scores…

The Go-Between by L.P.Hartley (8.83)

The In-Between World of Vikram Lall  by M.G. Vassanji (8.79)

All the Light We Cannot See by Anthony Doerr (8.7)

Let the Great World Spinby Colum McCann
 (8.67)

The Transit of Venus by Shirley Hazzard (8.63)
